History

[edit]

The Trans-Mississippi Department was established pursuant to War Department General Orders No. 39, dated May 26, 1862,[1] with headquarters at Little Rock, Arkansas. On April 24, 1863, the department moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where it remained before finally relocating to Houston, Texas, on May 18, 1865.[2]
